Price Per Call

Your Max Price Per Call should be based on the amount you are willing to pay for a phone call from a potential customer, as well as how high up in the listings you would like your ad to appear.

How much will I be charged for a phone call generated by my Pay Per Call ad?
The fee for each call received from your Pay Per Call ad is based on the Max Price Per Call you set. However, with Auto-bidding you are only charged $0.01 more than the next highest competitor's Max Price Per Call at the time of call. You are never charged more than your Max Price Per Call.

Which calls are charged and which calls are not?
To ensure you get maximum value as a Pay Per Call advertiser, you are not charged in the following situations:
  • Followup calls: Only the first call from a phone number will be charged within a 3-day period.
  • Short calls: You will not be charged because most likely the lead was not valuable.
  • Hang-ups & Unanswered calls: You will not be charged until sufficient time for the phone to be picked up elapses.
  • User Paused: You will not be charged if you receive a call when your ad is paused.
Other new phone call leads delivered to your ring-to number will be charged, so be ready to receive calls when your ad is live and use scheduling to pause your ad when you are unavailable.

Is there a time limit on calls coming from my Pay Per Call ad?
Currently, calls from your Pay Per Call ad can go as long as you like.

Do any overage fees apply?
You can talk as long as you need to. There are currently no per-minute fees.

How do I determine my Max Price Per Call?
Determine your Max Price Per Call by first deciding the absolute maximum you are willing to pay for a call from a potential customer, keeping in mind the minimum price requirement for each category. For each of your ads, you can select a unique Max Price Per Call. With Auto-bidding you are only charged $0.01 more than the next highest competitor's Max Price Per Call. After deciding on a Max Price Per Call, you can view how your competitors set their prices to understand where your ad is positioned in consumer search results. The ad with the highest Max Price Per Call will get the highest placement.

Here is an example of how different businesses may set their Max Price Per Call:

  • Florist #1 is willing to pay $10 to acquire a new customer and knows he can make a sale on one out of every two phone calls from his ad, so he sets a Max Price Per Call at $5. (This amount is determined by dividing the $10 value of a customer call by the two calls it will require to make a sale, to put the average value of a call at $5.)
  • Florist #2, a competitor florist in the same service area, also determines his average value of a customer call is $5. However, Florist #2 elects to pay $6 per call so his ad will get a higher ranking in search results.
How does Auto-bidding work?
With Auto-bidding, your Actual Price Per Call will only be $0.01 more than the next highest competitor's Max Price Per Call at the time of call. You are never charged more than your Max Price Per Call. For example:
  • Your Max Price Per Call is $5.00, and the next highest competitor set their Max Price Per Call at $3.00. You will only be charged $3.01 for each call connected, because $3.01 is the price required for your ad to maintain its position in the consumer search results.
  • If a new advertiser enters your ad's category with a Max Price Per Call of $3.50, your ad will remain in its position and you will only be charged $3.51 per call.
Position Max Price Per Call Actual Price Per Call
1 $5.00 $3.51
2 $3.50 $3.01
3 $3.00 $2.97

What is "View Competitors' Prices"?
The View Competitors' Prices button allows you to see what competitors in your category have set as their Max Price Per Call and where your ad is positioned. Pay Per Call ads are ranked by Max Price Per Call, although they may be displayed differently on other sites based on different ranking criteria.

How is my competition determined?
Your competition consists of Pay Per Call ads that share your ad's categories and service area, or a portion of your service area. More importantly, the ads must be active at the time of a call to compete with your ad. Ads that are paused or outside of the advertiser's callable hours are not considered active. Learn more about Ad Status and Scheduling.

Your competition changes as new advertisers enter your categories and service areas, as ads are paused and/or activated, and when competitors modify their Max Price Per Call.

Why would I want to receive emails when I am outbid?
By checking the box to receive alerts when you are outbid, an email is sent any time a new competitor bids higher than you in your selected category and in a location that you serve. The outbid alerts give you a chance to increase your bid so that you can keep your ad appearing above your competitors.

Can I change my service area, categories and/or Max Price Per Call?
Yes, for each of your Pay Per Call ads, you can edit your ad, service area and/or categories by clicking on the respective "Edit Service Area" and/or "Edit Categories" buttons. To change your Max Price Per Call, simply change the dollar amount in the designated field.
